We understand that choosing the right school holiday childcare provider is vital and the process can be confusing, so we have provided answers to some of the most frequently asked questions parents have when booking with Munchkin Sports. If the answer to your question is not provided below, please contact our Admin Team on admin@munchkinsports.com or on 020 8658 3777, as they are happy to help.
All Munchkin Sports Camp venues are Ofsted registered on the Early Years Register for 3-5 year olds, the Compulsory Register for 5-8 year olds and the Voluntary Register for 8-11 year olds. Our registrations mean we comply with the safeguarding, welfare and well-being, inclusion and learning and development Ofsted requirements. All our staff are fully vetted and trained and we ensure our extremely high standards are delivered consistently at every single one of our venues. Our policies and procedures are regularly reviewed and updated to ensure we meet the necessary requirements and the safety and welfare of the children in our camps will always be our number one priority.
Each of our venues has a separate registration and a unique registration number. This number will be required if you need to set up tax free childcare or childcare voucher payments with us, give feedback or view previous inspection reports.
All staff are Enhanced DBS checked and we follow the Safer Recruitment process for all staff as per the Keeping Children Safe In Education government requirements.
Our camps are for children in Reception - Year 6 at school (age 4 - 11). Selected camps have a pre-school group for 3-4 year olds; please check the individual locations to see those where this is available. Please note that during the summer before your child starts Reception at school, they are not classified as Reception age and therefore will only be able to attend the pre-school camps. Equally, the summer after your child has just finished Year 6, they are technically still in Year 6 and therefore are still able to attend camp with us for one final summer.
Our holiday camps run six times a year during every school holiday. Only select camps are open during the Christmas period and camp dates will vary from location to location so please check your chosen camp location for dates.
Our core camp hours are 9.30am - 4.30pm. We offer the option to add on extended hours to your booking with drop off from 8/8.30am and pick up until 5.30/6pm.
Please follow this link to view our Terms and Conditions.
We host special mega/theme days at various points throughout the camp calendar. These are at no extra cost, just ensure you book the correct day at the correct venue for your child to take part.
Not at all. We welcome children from any school to attend our camps.
You can book individual days or full weeks. There is a discounted rate if you book the full week.
Payments can be made via credit/debit card, Tax Free Childcare, Childcare Vouchers, MyFamilyCare, Bright Horizons and Childcare Grant Payment Service.
Due to the logistics of ensuring the correct numbers and ages are in each group, we are unable to confirm any friendship requests ahead of time. We do find that once the activities start, most children settle in very quickly and use the camps as an ideal opportunity to not only have fun but also to make new friends outside of their usual friendship groups. On the day we will however endeavour to make any friend request possible. Please speak to the team at registration who will be able to confirm if the children have already been placed together and if not will do all they can to make the request happen.
Online bookings close at midday the day before but if you wish to book after this point please contact the Admin Tea, and if we have space they will be happy to accommodate you.
For any amendments please contact the Admin Team who will be happy to assist. As per our Terms and Conditions, we require three working days notice to make any changes to your booking.
A 15% sibling discount will be applied to the lower price booking at the checkout. Please note that discounts are only applicable if siblings are attending on the same day.
We don't offer refunds however if you are wishing to cancel a booking that is within our notice period we will happily cancel booking and place credit on account for future booking.
Please contact the Admin Team and the team will make your booking on your behalf and apply the credit for you.
Due to how day is structured, and to ensure children are settled in their groups, we do not offer half days. You are however always welcome to drop your child later in the morning or collect early if necessary but you will need to book for the full day.
For a day at camp your child will need:
- A large refillable water bottle.
- A healthy and balanced packed lunch.
- Snacks for breaks.
- We are a nut free camp due to allergies so we kindly ask you to ensure your child's food contains no nuts; this includes: pesto, chocolate and chocolate spread.
- A change of clothes and underwear in case of an accident or wet weather. For the younger children we recommend two changes of clothes.
- A coat or waterproof.
- In summer: a sunhat and suncream (We ask that children arrive at camp with their first layer of suncream already applied. This will be regularly re-applied throughout the day).
If your child is attending a camp that offers swimming they will need:
- A towel, swimming costume and goggles (if needed) on the.
- We will provide armbands for all Reception children and non-swimmers.
Please ensure your child does not bring:
- Money.
- Mobile phones or any other electronic equipment.
Munchkin Sports cannot be held responsible nor can they compensate if items get damaged or go missing.
The children will be very active at camp and so comfortable clothes and trainers are vital. Layers are always advisable as the children will be indoors and outdoors at various points through the day. Your child will take part in lots of sporting activities, which weather dependent will be outside, and also arts and crafts activities; with this in mind we recommend you sending your child in in clothes that you don't mind getting a little dirty!
When you arrive at camp, you will register your child in at the front desk. From here they will then be taken to their group where they will meet the other children in their group and their coaches who will be with them for the whole day. Once all the children have been registered in, the Group Leader will host a morning meeting to settle the children in, help the children make friends, run through our camp rules and let the children know about all the fun activities they will be doing that day!
We know how daunting the first day at camp can seem to a child, but usually within a short time they are settled, making new friends and raring to go! Our experienced staff know how to welcome new children and make them feel comfortable and confident within their group. Parents are welcome to call the Camp Manager during the day to check on how your child is settling in.
At Munchkins Camps, we design every day with every child in mind, offering a wide range of sports, team-building games, creative arts and crafts, and our hugely popular Mega Days — from animal encounters to giant inflatables and themed adventure days. Children develop motor skills, confidence, and independence through a blend of individual and group challenges, all within the unique camp atmosphere our experienced staff create.
If for any reason your child is unable to attend camp, please contact the Admin team to report the absence. To ensure infection or illness is not brought on to camp, if your child is ill, has a temperature or any vomiting or diarrhoea, please do not bring them to camp until they are well and have been symptom-free and are eating and toileting normally for at least 24 hours.
The ages in each group will depend on the age distribution across the whole camp which can change from venue to venue and from week to week. Sometimes we might have a dedicated group for each age and sometimes we will group different ages together, it does depend on how many children we have on camp on each day. Please note that we put the children in groups based on dates of birth, not school years.
During the day children will have a 30 minute morning snack break, a 30 minute afternoon snack break and will have an hour break at lunch which includes free play time.
If booked until 4.30pm, you can add late collection until 5.30/6 for a fee - please contact the office to do this. If after end of camp day , late pickup fees will apply. If you think you are going to be late please contact HO as soon as possible
Parents are not permitted to stay on camp during the day due to stringent safeguarding policies; all adults at camp must undergo background checks and an enhanced DBS check. We do want parents to be able to be a part of their child’s on-camp experience however, so a timetable of the day’s activities is available to view at registration and your camp manager is contactable throughout the day.
Friends and family can be authorised to collect your child from camp. We ask that anyone collecting your child is in possession of the collection password, as only once they have given this will your child be released to them. If you cannot remember your password please contact the Admin Team for verification.
If your child falls ill at camp, we will endeavour to make your child as comfortable as possible; the Camp Manager will contact you immediately and if necessary will arrange for your child to be collected early.
Through rigorous risk assessments, safety checks, safety briefings and child supervision we do everything possible to minimise any accidents at camp. However we know accidents do happen and we have fully trained paediatric first aiders on site to deal with any injuries. Minor injuries will be treated on site as necessary. For anything beyond this, including any head bumps, you will be immediately informed and in the unlikely event of a serious accident, emergency services will be called.
Due to late bookings, weather conditions and changing numbers of children on camp, timetables are confirmed in advance however please note that these will not be published on our website. The timetable of the day’s activities is available to view at registration when you drop and pick your child up. A sample timetable can be viewed here and shows the mix and type of activities children can expect at camp.
No - please send child to camp with snacks for morning and afternoon and a packed lunch. No nuts
Food is not provided at camp. Your child will need to bring a packed lunch, snacks and refillable water bottle each day. Please be aware that children on camp may have nut allergies – please avoid nuts and nut products in your child’s packed lunch.
We adhere to and go above and beyond the required ratios for each age group. The number of children in each group will depend on the age and size of the camp but will never go above 30 children.
Siblings of the same age will always be placed in the same group. However, to ensure the safety of children during activities, and for their enjoyment, children are grouped by date of birth and therefore siblings of differing age will not be able to be placed together.
If you are returning to camp the following day, please check the lost property table on site. If not, please contact the Admin Team who will work with the Camp team to locate the item. All lost property returns to Head Office at the end of camp and will be held for 1 month before being donated to charity. To try and limit lost property please ensure all your child's possessions are labelled. Munchkin Sports cannot be held responsible nor can they compensate if items get damaged or go missing.
The adult:child staff ratio depends on the age of the children in the group. Our pre-school groups operate on a 1:8 ratio; our 4-5 year old groups operate on a 1:10 ratio and our 5-11 year groups operate on a 1:15 ratio. There will always be a minimum of 2 members of staff in each group.
Please contact the Admin Team ahead of booking to discuss this and to ensure we can meet your child's needs.
We will always endeavour to be as inclusive as possible. Please contact the Admin Team ahead of booking to discuss your child's needs and the support they need.
If your child needs medication at camp please ensure the medication is in the box with the prescription label and is placed in a clear bag such as a plastic freezer bag clearly labelled with your child's name. If you have a care plan associated with the medication please put this inside the bag, if not you will be required to fill in a medication form on arrival at camp. Please note we can only adminster medication that has been prescribed for your child by a health professional.
If you need to drop your child later than the morning registration window, you may find the school gates to be shut for safety. In this case please contact the number on the gate and a member of the team will come down and meet you, get your child registered , settled in camp and then take them to join their group.
If you need to collect your child early from camp, please notify the team at registration in the morning so that they can have your child ready at the agreed time. If your plans change during the day please contact the Admin Team so a message can be passed through to the team on site.
To ensure infection or illness is not brought on to camp, if your child is ill, has a temperature or any vomiting or diarrhoea, please do not bring them to camp until they are well and have been symptom-free and are eating and toileting normally for at least 24 hours.
All our venues have indoor and outdoor facilities. Whilst we will always endeavour to run sporting activities outdoors and are not afraid of a light rain shower, please be assured that children will remain indoors during inclement weather and the activity schedule will be tailored accordingly.
