Welcome to munchkIn sports
At Munchkin Sports, we don’t just coach – we develop people. With over 4,000 children taking part in our programmes every week, we create environments where children build confidence, skills, and a genuine love for physical activity. But just as importantly, we create opportunities for you to grow. Whether you’re completely new to coaching or already experienced, we offer a clear pathway through the company – from Assistant Coach to Head Coach, and even into leadership roles such as Camp Manager or Training Manager.
We provide regular work across PPA cover in schools, weekend sports programmes, after-school clubs, and holiday camps – giving you the flexibility to build a schedule that works around your life. As part of our team, you’ll gain real experience, accredited training, and the chance to progress into different areas of the business. If you’re passionate about working with children, enthusiastic, reliable, and keen to grow within a fast-moving company, Munchkin Sports is the perfect place to start your coaching journey.
For people who have applied for full-time work and have a level of previous experience.
These people will also follow our training programme and levelling system.
A typical pathway is:
- Lead Coach
- Head Coach
- Camp/Wraparound Manager
- Field Manager
The NVQ pathway is an amazing journey for our full-time staff who would like to go on to teach in the future. As part of their package, we pay for their courses, ringfence time in their working week to complete course work and source placements for them in our partner schools. This provides them with full-time employment until they qualify.
Each year we select and offer the most promising part-time staff the option to come on-board and work with us, whilst being trained and in full-time employment.
This internal career pathway is very rewarding and progressive. Several of our apprentices have gone on to be very successful Head Coaches with us. One of our current field Managers has even followed this path from when he left school and we are so proud of his progress.
This pathway is designed to entice people who are beginning their teacher training degrees and are looking for regular part-time work for at least the 3 years they are on their course.
With the relationships we have with several universities, Munchkins are continually being recommended by tutors as the ideal place to work whilst continuing their education.
We also work closely with our partner schools, alerting them to staff members who are on this pathway and would be an ideal fit as a placement at their schools. We now have several employees following this pathway.
This is an ideal programme for us. Staff are aware that their time with us helps build their teaching knowledge and gives them valuable experience. It pays dividends for us with the quality of staff and their engagement levels.
At Munchkin Sports we work with over 4000 children each week, providing each one the opportunity to learn new skills, strengthen their co-ordination and agility and above all have fun! It is our intention that every child that attends one of our classes or camps goes away with a sense of fulfilment.

I spent three years studying Sports and Exercise Science at Swansea University, curious about what creates elite sports performers. Elite performers share a love for varied sports and develop fundamental movement skills from a young age.
Munchkin Sports introduces children to sport with emphasis on fun whilst developing fundamental movement skills. They have given me the opportunity to develop coaching skills, lead sessions, and help other coaches improve. There are lots of progression opportunities; my goal is to become a Junior Partner and a coach others look up to.
Lewis Thistleton
I’ve worked for Munchkin Sports for two and a half years, gaining tremendous experience. I joined during Sixth Form as it provided flexibility whilst letting me develop skills working with children—something I’ve always been passionate about.
The best part is seeing children excited to play sports whilst developing confidence. The experience complements my university studies, relating theory to real-life scenarios. I’ve progressed from assisting classes to running my own and managing Holiday Camps.
Maddy Butler
I joined Munchkin Sports in 2017 with a background in children’s mental health, nursing, and tennis coaching. I’ve grown alongside the company, now running KS1 PE lessons, after-school clubs, and managing holiday camps whilst training new staff.
Both my children were coached by Munchkins and are now Assistant Coaches themselves. I’m proud of the leadership skills and confidence it’s given them—and me. This company helps children grow, make friends, and build resilience.
Claire Wells
I started at Munchkins part-time in 2017. After 18 months, our Managing Director Joe invited me to join full-time as an apprentice. I jumped at the opportunity, and under Joe’s guidance, my journey took off. I’ve progressed to Field Manager and Head of the Senior Leadership Team.
The company has taught me so much, helping me become a better leader, coach, role model, and communicator. I continuously improve myself and support others. My goal is to become a Regional Manager, leading a coaching team outside London to deliver our top-quality product and get more children passionate about sport.
